Drusy, found in the United States, often appears as a fine coating, similar to sugar crystals, growing on other mineral deposits.  Drusy comes in many colors, textures and sizes.

Sometimes I have found it as chunks of large crystals, sparkling at me after a rain on Missouri Mountains.  Other times it has shined up out of a cold running stream or peeked out from the moss and pine needles beneath ancient trees. Wherever I have found it, it has been fascinating.

Drusy is found in many forms including the delicate “nests” of brown and white stone showcasing dainty sparkling “eggs” that had been hidden inside. The eggs in this type of Drusy are usually white to caramel in color though sometimes they range thru the blue-grays to nearly amethyst.

Drusy is often found inside geodes and the size of the crystals depends largely on the size of the geode.

Oftentimes people have an affinity for various stones and it seems that Drusy has claimed me.  I lived in Missouri for several years and all the specimens used in the jewelry here today are from various sites in Southeast and South Missouri.

It is believed by many that Quartz has healing and clarifying properties and it is a bit of history that when the ancient “seers” began using crystal balls to help them focus, the most used crystals were of smoky quartz.

Next spring my husband, David Sun, and I will return to Missouri to prospect for more one-of-a-kind treasures for new pieces.
